This 4m deep, 500m2 basement to a country house in Surrey in the South of England was designed for leisure and entertainment, incorporating a swimming pool and spa pool. A high water table meant waterproof concrete was essential for this project, so Pudlo were chosen to provide the waterproof mix. The basement slab was 500mm deep throughout and consisted of several sumps, service pits and a large swimming pool. The retaining walls were two sided due to the nature of the dig out, 300mm thick and ranged from 3.5m to 4m in height. These were formed using Doka wall formwork. A podium capping slab was then formed covering the entirety of the basement. The slab included several intricate steps in the soffit and top surface which led to a detailed pour sequence being agreed with Pudlo to ensure we kept within their best practice guidelines to achieve a watertight suspended slab on completion.
