Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park – AD Facility

Volker Fitzpatrick

The construction of the new Anaerobic Digestion Facility in the Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park, consisting of four main areas; the fermenter tanks, ASP bays, the compost tunnels and storage area. The fermenter tanks and compost tunnels are enclosed within 5m high walls, formed using RMD Maxima wall panels.  The large ground bearing slabs mainly consist of 400mm thick sections with 900mm edge and internal thickenings between the bays and tanks.  The soffit formwork for both large sections utilised the Peri Skydeck system.  All ground bearing slabs are powerfloated to an AR2 finish to gain the required abrasive resistance, while the walls are finished to a smooth F2 finish.  Each section of the build requires intricate planning with the different sub-contractors to incorporate the installation pipework and several cast in items.
