Construction of reinforced concrete protection barriers to 2 no bridges under the M74 junction 6 near Glasgow for HBS.  The barriers were 37m and 14m long and around 4.5m high.  Works were carried out under 2 lane closures whilst the motorway remained open.

Large polystyrene void formers were placed around each of the 14 supporting columns of the structure, these had to be cut to shape by hand to match the shape of the rebar cage, and additional support and pour precautions were required to avoid these blocks moving and lifting during concreting. The void formers ensure that any potential impact loads that may occur from a collision will not be transferred from the new concrete to the bridge structure.
