Finstown Farewell

There’s been plenty happening at our Finstown Substation project over the last few weeks, and these images capture some of the highlights.

Alongside another successful concrete pour and the day-to-day work on site, they show the things that matter just as much, the morning briefings, ongoing training and the teamwork that keeps the project moving safely and efficiently.

They also mark the end of a chapter for one of our team.

Joe O’Dwyer joined the project when works started back in May 2025 as a 19-year-old concrete operative, taking his first steps into the construction industry. Over the course of the job, he’s gained valuable experience and developed new skills, growing in confidence thanks to the support and guidance of his colleagues. Through his hard work, commitment and positive attitude, Joe has become a valued member of the team.

Before setting off on a well-earned gap year travelling around Australia, Joe was presented with a bottle of 25-year-old Highland Park whisky by our Site Manager, Michael Mallon, as a small thank you for everything he’s contributed since day one. We know he’s looking to build on the experience he’s gained at Murform during his travels, and we wish him every success in the next stage of his journey.

The Finstown project is helping deliver critical infrastructure that will support the future connection of Orkney’s renewable energy to the mainland electricity network, and we’re proud that alongside building this important asset, we’re helping young people start and develop rewarding careers in construction.

Best of luck, Joe! Everyone at Murform wishes you safe travels and every success for the adventure ahead.
